Prescription Shooting Glasses - How To Select A Set

As a recreational shooter and hunter with less than perfect sight, I can truly appreciate the call for quality prescription shooting glasses.
So when you are searching for a pair of prescription shooting glasses, where do you begin?
Essentially, you will have one of two possibilities. Those choices include the following:
(1) Custom made prescription shooting glasses either by an eye care professional or by a custom shooting glasses maker.
(2) Production grade shooting glasses that utilize a removable insert that attaches the prescription lens inside the glasses in front on the eye.
Both eye protection products have both good and bad points. We'll start with the down sides of each.
Custom Shooting Glasses:
Downside - You can pretty much plan on a custom pair of shooting glasses costing you a sizable chuck of change. Depending on the maker, expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $500 for a decent pair of custom prescription glasses. If you are researching different makers, you'll probably see some noticeable variations in quality within those cost ranges. The vast majority of custom makers will only offer prescription lens in a single tint. Some brands will offer an interchangeable type of prescription lens in a few assorted lens colors, but those models will be probably be closer to the $500 price point.
Pros - Shooting glasses of this style and price range are usually well made and designed for a lifetime of use. Although typically more costly, custom prescription shooting glasses are custom fitted to your facial features, and offer an excellent, distortion free field of view.
Production Shooting Glasses:
Negatives - While costing less, production shooting glasses can lack the quality
