One of the largest controversial items with the Pentium III is the unique serial number which is located on each of the Pentium III processors.
This was designed for security reasons; for example, when doing credit card submissions over the Internet, identification could be verified using this unique serial number. This, however, caused an upset in the computing industry for fear that you can be tracked. Because of this upset, Intel gave the user the option to enable or disable this feature, and by default this feature is disabled.
If
you
have
not
enabled
this
feature
you
should
not
need
to
disable
it.
However,
to
enable
or
disable
this
feature,
you
can
download
a
software
app
from
Intel
which
is a
software
driven
program
to
show
you
the
status
and
allow
you
to
change
the
status
of
the
serial
number.

Additionally, many computers will also have this option available in the CMOS / BIOS
